My Project

Scholastic Action magazine is a proven resource to grow students' excitement about reading as well as to grow their reading skills. The format of the magazine is inviting and draws the students in. The included texts are varied in genre and are interesting to students. The monthly delivery ensures the content is timely and relevant. Students who have access to texts they are excited about are more successful readers. Students will use the magazines in my 6th-grade ELA class in a variety of ways. They will be used during independent reading time, either as a substitution for when a student forgets their independent novel or as a class activity, where they will be asked to pick a text from the magazine to read. Students will complete a reading response after independent reading and often times discuss their reading with a peer. The Action magazines will also be utilized during small group work. I often work with small groups in my classroom, and the magazines will allow me to pick targeted skills to work on with individual groups.
