My students, in grades K-5, are a wonderful and joyous bunch of children. They attend a school in an urban district in Connecticut, and come from all different cultural backgrounds.
They come to the classroom each week ready to be tuneful, beatful, and artful through singing, movement, instruments, and listening.
They are active and excited music-makers!
My Project
My students were active, engaged, and musical participants in distance learning this spring. Now, we're back in school in a hybrid model with some of our classmates at home participating via virtual learning.
Music class is going to look very different this year.
Singing inside is not safe, and sharing materials is not safe either! My project will provide students with individual music kits, for use at home or at school. They will be able to participate in music-making in so many ways.
Students can explore shaking, tapping, and scraping percussive sounds using the egg shakers, wooden dowels, and comb. We can explore pitch pathways at home or outside using pipe cleaners. Popsicle sticks can be used to create rhythm patterns without the need for pencil and paper. A bag keeps it all contained and clean.
