Because of you, our classroom has been transformed into a more comfortable, flexible, and welcoming space where students love to learn.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donations, we now have a bright new classroom carpet that gives us a cozy spot to gather for lessons, discussions, and read-alouds. The lap desks and floor pads have given my students the freedom to choose how and where they learn best, whether they're reading quietly on the carpet, collaborating with a partner, or working independently in their favorite spot. And the step stool has been a small but mighty addition, helping students confidently reach materials and take ownership of our classroom.\r\n\r\nThese items have truly changed the way we learn together. My students feel a stronger sense of comfort, independence, and community — and it's all because of your kindness. You've helped create a classroom environment that supports every kind of learner and makes school a place they're excited to be each day.\r\nThank you for believing in my students and in the power of a supportive learning space. I heard some screams, \"oh my gosh!\", \"Wait. Is this ours?!\", \"Where did you get this?!\", \"Can we keep it!\", \"This is so cool!\", \"It's beautiful!\". Followed by them immediately needing to run up to it and lay down. I explained to them that this our new rug for the music room! I explained to them what donors choose is and how some very nice people saw the project that I posted and they also thought that they all deserve a rug for our room. I told them that you were the people who paid for it. Some of them were confused. They couldn't understand why someone would buy us a rug for no reason other than to be kind. It actually turned into quite a nice conversation about kindness and donations and doing things for other people for nothing in return. A lot of students were really moved by this act of kindness. So much so that a lot of them vowed to do something similar when they get older and have money to donate rugs to schools. (We did talk about non monetary donations but they are adamant about donating rugs now.)\r\n\r\nNow that we have the rug, we can have different work spaces and it helps differentiating between activities. When students are off the rug, they have sitting spots to make sure they are spread out for using materials or movements in one place. We use the rug area for listening activities, our dance floor for brain breaks, and ending the class with a song tale. We also use it for when we go to \"Arioso Land\" which is a magical place that we travel to. In Arioso Land, we are not allowed to talk, only sing to each other. This can be intimidating for any student of any age, but I've noticed since designating the rug for Arioso a lot of students have felt more comfortable singing since they are physically more comfortable on the rug. \r\n\r\nOverall, this rug has been an amazing addition to the music room and both me and my students are so grateful every time we walk into the room and see it. I still have one kindergartener that is surprised every time he has music. He comes in and goes \"It's still here!\". Yes...it's still here...:)","fullyFundedDate":1735697591724,"projectUrl":"project/make-our-music-class-a-home/8889531/","projectTitle":"Make our Music Class a Home","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Santiago","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9460602"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43628","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":385,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.2,"schoolId":43628,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ivy Drive Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ivy Drive Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/bristol-public-schools/ivy-drive-elementary-school/43628"}
