Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Cross Country program serves 65 students that come from a predominately minority community with 90% and up of them receiving free or reduced-price lunch. They come to practice not only to enjoy the sport, but to compete with class that they carry into their own community and future.
Many of our athletes raise younger siblings, work after school jobs to support their families, devote hours to studying for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, and participate in academic extracurriculars.
The athletes we have are some of the smartest in the school and I want them to learn more about their own sport in hope that they are able to better their performances. Getting them these resources will help them.
My Project
Our student-athletes do not know enough about our sport, so I am hoping to educate them on our sport by giving them examples from athletes that have come before them.
These books will teach them about staying injury-free, proper fuel, keeping their head in the game, and realistic goal setting.
Our students can benefit from learning from professionals in the sport that have gone through the same problems that my students are experiencing and how they got through it. It will help us become a stronger team. Our current running books have helped out tremendously in growing our performance, and I would like my students to benefit from more voices in our sport.
