REAL Robotics is in its rookie year for the FIRST Robotics Competition. Our team is made of up of freshman through seniors. The unique thing about our team is that the girls on our team outnumber the boys by 5. We are located in southeast Wisconsin and are part of the public school district. Our school caters to students across the district through a lottery system. Many of our students come from economically disadvantaged families, and it can be difficult to secure additional funds for anything outside of the necessities.
We are enjoying our rookie season of FIRST Robotics and want to secure funds so that we have the ability to test the second robot so that we are able to practice prior to competition.
The team is very dedicated to building the robot and raising funds to purchase all of the materials and tools needed to finish building before bag day. After that day we are no longer allowed to touch that robot until we walk into the competition, a month later.
Our team needs this FRC Rookie Basic Startup Kit so that it can help them succeed in adjusting, testing, and building a robot that can be successful in competition. Many teams get to the competition and the robot they worked on for the past six weeks does not work. We don't want to be in that stressful situation.
Our goal is to have the opportunity to continue to refine our design and be as prepared as possible so we represent our team and our school properly and have the chance to showcase the hard work paid off.
The team works together every day after school and every other weekend for several hours to learn about team strategy, how to build a robot, design elements of the robot and also programming. We spend many hours researching and self-teaching so that we are successful in this competition.
