For the past several years, schools all over have been battling attendance as a result of COVID-19. Our students were no exception. Our district formed monthly Attendance Team meetings to brainstorm ideas that would address the issues surrounding attendance. One idea our school-based team came up with was to create the 'Duck Draw' in which students with 90% or better attendance during the week would be eligible. On the day of the draw, students eligible for the draw (whether they were in 6th grade or 10th grade) were excited to participate.\r\nWhen the grant items arrived and my students saw all of the items purchased thru DonorsChoose, their initial reaction was, \"Whoooaaa!\" They couldn't believe that all of the boxes were for our school, and that the items were going to be a part of the 'Duck Draws'. I know other students are going to have the same reaction starting tomorrow (February 28th).\r\nAs the close of the semester neared, we saw more students eligible for the 'Duck Draw'. Currently, we have just under 70% of our school eligible for the 'Duck Draw' and the plan is to not stop there.
