Students are learning to empathize and reflect on other's experiences in class all of the time. There is a lack of Native Literature in our curriculum and I want to expand on this early on so I can expose my students to different cultures through literature. Students will be reading the novel There, There by Tommy Orange. This is a contemporary story told through multiple perspectives of Native Americans living in Oakland, California. The story builds up to a powwow at the end where all of the character's stories intersect. This story will help students to see the world from many different perspectives, relate to the experiences of these characters, and learn a bit more about Native cultures.
