Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an urban public school with over 900 students. The students in our school come from very diverse backgrounds and cultures. There are over 15 different languages spoken in the homes of our students including Spanish, Portuguese, Khmer, and Vietnamese. Over 60% of our students’ homes do not speak English as their primary language and 25% of our student population receives ESL services.
Our middle school is classified as a Title I school and over 70% of our students receive free/reduced lunch.
Our school is part of the District Reference Group "H," which is the second lowest socioeconomic level a school can be placed in. Despite these economic barriers, our students strive for academic achievement. Our school community promotes our unique diversity and encourages students to reach their maximum learning potential.
My Project
Over the next few months my students will be working in groups to complete a Project Based Learning (PBL) assignment on ancient Rome. Students will be analyzing sources, finding credible evidence, and ultimately designing/creating a tri-board that displays all of their research. Students will be researching topics such as Julius Caesar, the Colosseum, gladiators, the Roman emperors, the Roman Republic, and much more!
This PBL assignment is student-centered and will encourage students to be creative, collaborate with their peers, and communicate effectively.
My students will be analyzing the rise and fall of the Roman Empire while also learning essential skills that will assist them in their future endeavors.
The requested supplies will greatly benefit my students and their projects. With these project supplies students will be able to design and create a professional style tri-board presentation. My students will be presenting these projects to their peers, teachers, administrators, and important community members. These supplies will help my students feel confident and proud of their tri-board as they present their findings. Help us "build" Rome with these important supplies!
