Rolling Out Robotics

My students need Spheros, tiny app-enabled robotic balls, for program coding and hands-on technology.

My Students

I am continually seeking experiences for my students that enrich their lives. My elementary school has a diverse demographic and ethnic population of students. My kids can come from either trailer parks or gated communities.

We are no longer eligible for Title I funding.

In my grade level, students have access to Chromebooks. Within my classroom, my students have access to 5 iPads and are very tech-savvy. These ten and eleven year-olds love creating original presentations and being the experts in sharing what they have learned. Daily, these students complete assignments given by me via Google Classroom.

My Project

Spheros are round robots that students program with computer coding and control with app-devices. Students can write code to pre-program the robots to follow and draw paths for the Spheros to maneuver. More than one child can work on the technology at once, building community and team work.

This enhances our learning within the required learning standards for force and motion in science and coordinate grids in math, as well as problem solving strategies.

My goal is to provide technology to demonstrate how these concepts connect to our world, instead of only utilizing worksheets and videos. It is important to provide more hands-on experiences to increase what the students discover, remember, and learn.
