My students crave independent reading time daily. Their reading levels can range from 1st grade to high school. There is a limited number of available copies. Our media specialist (librarian) is very receptive to student suggestions for building our library. The same problem occurs within my class library, with having current interest levels and specific genres available to all of my students. The biggest obstacle has been with students finding enough literary resources, when we research with biographies and historical events. Each year we have representatives from our local public library come to our school to support students applying for their own library card. Each of my students have grown at least 2 reading levels (2 years worth of growth) by enriching their reading library and focusing important reading strategies. I want to continue feeding the appetite we foster in literacy at my school.
