My school is filled with eager, ethnically diverse students ready to grow in their learning when given the opportunity. We are a true neighborhood school of 540 students grades PreK-6th. Most students walk to and from our campus. Many of our families struggle to make ends meet with 70% of our learners on free and reduced lunch status.
Even though many of my students face personal and financial hardships, we are a true community of learners who work together to ACHIEVE and SUCCEED!
Besides our regular education students, we have a high population of military families and multiple classrooms of behaviorally challenged students requiring positive behavior support as well as focused instruction. As our school librarian, I am blessed with the opportunity to work with all 540 of our amazing students with regularly scheduled classes.
Our students are intelligent, creative, athletic, artistic, musical and so much more! What they need are opportunities to expand their horizons and enhance their learning. I want to give them that chance!
My Project
In my Media Center we have an area called Creative Colts. Students complete STEM activities through collaborative learning task challenges. For this project, my goal is to use Ozobot Robots to teach my children computer coding skills. I will divide the students into groups and they will be challenged to complete specific tasks that require them to program their Ozobot using coding to complete. For example, they will use Legos to construct a city and will need to program the Ozobot to move directionally to different locations.
Encouraging young children to work collaboratively using coding with robots increases a child's creativity, social skills, and higher order thinking.
My school has a high percentage (70%) of students who are identified as economically disadvantaged. It is critical they are given the same opportunity as their peers to experience instructional technology on a regular basis through STEM activities.
My students are enthusiastic, creative, intelligent learners eager to experience STEM center learning. Ozobot Robots would bring a new level of creativity and advanced technological skills for my spectacular students.
