Rocking Our Way Through Education

Help me give my students a rocking chair that is appropriate to their size.

My Project

With the variety of sensory and emotional needs in our classroom, this project is focused on providing autistic students with optional seating for sensory input. This rocking chair will be used for a student who is learning how to sit at a desk to learn. Currently, he is sitting in a preschool chair that is too low for his desk. He likes to rock and helps him with his sensory needs.

This rocking chair will provide an area for students to express their feelings and receive sensory input to help regulate and be ready for learning within the classroom.

Within our SEL curriculum, we learn about calming-down techniques that can be magnified. Utilizing the sensory seating of a rocking chair helps students gain a sense of security and calmness.

Rocking can give a student with autism a moment to refocus.

Ultimately, every child can be ready to learn when given the right tools.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
