My students need an Makerblock mBot, add-on pack and LED matrix to broaden their understanding of engineering and building robotics for multiple purposes.
The goal on my classroom is to establish an educational environment that meets the needs of the whole child. My students have many obstacles in the way of their education, 30% of my students are in temporary housing, 40% are special education and 96% are below the poverty line.
Our aim as a school is to produce lifelong learners and thinkers by providing standards-driven instruction that is approached from a practical and attainable place.
We seek a collaborative environment where parents, teachers, and children are active participants in the total learning process. We believe that every child can be successful if we, provide a safe harbor for learning, prepare them to meet all challenges, and build on their strengths while simultaneously, eliminating their weaknesses.
My Project
The Makeblock mBot is exactly what my students need to further their understanding of programming. As a teacher, I've exposed my students to programming and they are able to create programs using Scratch.
The Makeblock mBot is the next step because it is built and designed by the students.
My students experience a great sense of pride and a boost of confidence when they complete a Scratch program. Those feelings will undoubtably be amplified when the can see a robot build from little pieces running their program. That confidence always stays with them and they feel like more things are possible in their educational journey.
