As a K–5 speech-language pathologist in an urban public school serving many students from low-income and shelter backgrounds, I see every day how important it is for children to feel both supported and empowered. Thanks to you, my students were able to experience both.\r\nHow We Used the Resources:\r\nStudents used the donated materials to plan and lead our holiday gift exchange and toy drive. They selected gifts for one another, wrapped them independently, and wrote thoughtful kindness and gratitude cards to accompany each gift. They also chose additional items to place in our school's toy drive box as part of their community service initiative.\r\nOne of the most powerful moments came when a student said, \"I want to give this to someone who might not get anything.\" That simple statement captured the heart of the project — empathy in action. My students weren't just receiving gifts; they were actively thinking about others and making intentional choices about how to give.\r\nStudent Reactions:\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were excited — but what stood out most was their pride. They felt important. They understood that this was something they were leading. Seeing the wrapping paper, gift bags, and items laid out made the project feel real, and they immediately began discussing who they wanted to help and how they could make someone smile.\r\nWhat's Next:\r\nThis project has opened the door to deeper conversations about gratitude, leadership, and community service. Our next step is building on these skills by having students create a \"Kindness Continues\" board in the hallway, where they'll write and post acts of service they complete throughout the year. We will continue integrating expressive language goals with real-life leadership opportunities, empowering students to use their voices to positively impact our school community.\r\nThank you for giving my students more than materials — you gave them an opportunity to lead, serve, and grow. Your generosity helped create a moment they will remember long after the holiday season ends.","fullyFundedDate":1762372018349,"projectUrl":"project/speech-students-spread-holiday-cheer-le/9814749/","projectTitle":"Speech Students Spread Holiday Cheer: Learning the Gift of Giving","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Policaro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8665669"},{"teacherId":9576790,"projectId":9899875,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for you generous contribution to my classroom. We have a Holiday Show, Black History Show and Multicultural Show. My school also has the disney grant so we also perform a disney play. Students don't always get to see their fruits of the labor. Having a color printer allows me to print their pictures from these shows and display them around my classroom and the school hallways. \r\n\r\nPictures create nostalgia.
