My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, I work with students who are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to have them appreciate themselves and each other. My students have been dismissed by others as not being able to learn, and it's crucial to let them know that they are capable of learning and succeeding.
Every week, I see all over five hundred students in the school for art.
We work hard to create and we need some extra support this year. Our budget this year has been halved. Part of it is allocated to the music program. Having received nothing last year, we are working with very little.
My Project
Upper elementary schoolers and middle schoolers have a lot going on. Behavior in the classroom can be tough with all the trauma they may be experiencing in their lives outside of school.
We need behavior incentives that get the kids excited!
When polled, the two biggest motivators the students wanted to work for were snacks and t-shirts. I'd like to be able to provide those as motivators for them, to improve classroom behavior. A calm, quiet class is a class that has potential to learn and create.
We've started using ClassDojo in our room to keep track of points, but it's not enough. We need the motivators behind it. Please help us get our behavior back on track so we can create!
