Restock the Art Room With Essentials

Help me give my students essential supplies in the art room so they can continue their creative journey!

My Students

I serve 800 K-6 students in my art classroom. We have a very diverse student body in an amazing school district that proactively works towards closing the achievement gap.

Seventy-six percent of students come from low-income families.

High expectations and quality resources are key to providing students with the environment they need in order to become first-generation scholars.

Twenty-eight percent of students are learning English. As they are taught in a language they have not yet mastered, they often fall behind academically. However, art is a universal language. Because we develop receptive language more quickly than expressive language, ELL students are able to visually see the processes and objectives for the artwork. This gives ELL students a chance to confidently demonstrate what they can do. Art gives students who are adjusting to a new world an avenue to explore identity and culture.

If you are looking for a place to make the biggest impact, you have found it. Compared to neighboring school districts, 70% of my budget comes from donors like you. A quality education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and reaching a more autonomous life.

My Project

We are midway through the school year and with around 900 students sharing materials in an art room without a budget, we need to restock. After drawing pumpkins this fall, all our yellow and orange crayons are diminishing. After drawing surreal portraits, all of our skin-toned pastels are gone. We had to get very surreal with some blue and green skin tones! Your donation will restock our shelves with paper, pencils, erasers, glue, scissors, paint, and markers.

The arts teach children resilience and critical thinking as they problem solve to continually revise and develop artwork.

The arts provide an engaging avenue for students to develop a cognitive skill set applicable to any career path they choose in the future. Studies have shown that art programs increase graduation rates for at risk youth, which is the primary demographic of our school. Your donation will help little artists continue their creative journey!
