Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is special because I have a goal of making it a safe place for all my students. I want them to always feel welcomed and wanted in my class. I strive to build healthy, trusting relationships with my students. I am an RSP teacher so my students are in general education classrooms and come to me for support in filling their academic gaps. All my students have IEPs that include academic goals we need to work on to help them be successful in all their academic settings. My students work hard in my classroom and I reward them with daily sticker charts. Once they fill up a row—which means they showed up five times and did a great job—they earn a small prize. Once they fill up their whole sticker chart, they earn a big prize from my treasure box. I love how excited they get knowing they are working for something they really want.

My Project

I can grow professionally by having additional instructional materials to help teach and support my students with IEP goals and academic needs. My students will benefit from these materials since they can be scaffolded and delivered at their individual levels. This gives them confidence in their learning ability.

As an RSP teacher, I have seen the need to supplement academic materials with other resources to ensure students can grasp each academic concept.

I also need to focus my lessons and instruction based on my students' IEP goals and their areas of need.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
