Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help engage and shape appropriate behaviors for a student with autism. Our student has become "bored" with the rewards and manipulative's in our classroom and aggressive behaviors have increased because of this. He would be thrilled to work for educational activities such as these!

My school is in a rural area, the students are 94% Hispanic and 94.5% receive free and reduced lunches.

The students lack the experiences and the knowledge of more urban areas and thrive on opportunities to learn more about the world outside of their hometown. My students are extremely appreciative of anything given or donated to them, even when it is something as simple as a pencil. My class is a resource room which serves students with disabilities ranging from learning disabilities to autism and intellectual disabilities.

My Project

The requested resources, Slot-a-Shape builders, 3-D magnet builder, 2 US maps (one floor, one desktop), 2 world maps (one floor, one desktop), and set of 6 floor puzzles, would benefit all my students as they have limited knowledge about the world outside their hometown. However, I had one specific student in mind when requesting these items. This particular student has autism and is intrigued by maps and manipulative's. He is currently losing interest in the materials and manipulative's available to him in my class and therefore losing interest in working to earn them. I am excited to have more educational activities available to use as a reward for this student as well as a teaching tool and a fun way for him to learn more about the world.

Donations of these materials will not only help to educate my students about the world outside their hometown, but will also help me to keep up a positive, safe learning environment for my students.

When our student with autism does not have activities and rewards that he likes to work for it often results in refusal to work and aggressive behaviors such as banging on surfaces and kicking. This behavior makes learning difficult for the other students in class. Your donations are appreciated!
