My Students

I am an administrator at a kindergarten through 6th grade building. .All of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches. We are located in a large city in an area that has low-income properties and housing. We provide weekend meals to our children along with a farmer's market food pantry that is offered monthly to our families.

Our school has the highest immigrant population in our district.

We have many students in our population who speak English as a second language and have very few opportunities for real-life experiences at home. My students have come to my class with little exposure to academics and life experiences. My students work hard, and they are excited to explore, discover, and learn.

My Project

I am requesting items to creating a calming, reset, renew, reading corner in our office area. This will be a place for students to use their calming strategies to refocus and prepare to return to their class setting. Students will be able to read, use fidgets, and reflect in this calming center.

There will be social emotional tools, a blanket, and hanging fidgets on the coat rack along with encouraging words around them.

The calming zone will be an area for them to take five minutes to prepare them to conquer the rest of the day!
