I am a 6th-grade teacher in a school with limited resources. My school is in an urban environment where all my students qualify for - and receive - free breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily. Most of my students are considered low income. Some of my students come from all around the world and are learning English.
Despite these financial obstacles and hardships, I want my students to feel successful at all times.
There are so many things that we can use in the classroom that will aid all students, yet as teachers in a low-income district, we just don't have the access to them.
My Project
My students will be learning from home this year and need resources to help ease this process. We use whiteboards in my classroom every day, especially for math. While there are many virtual tools that can mimic a whiteboard, I think that some tools are necessary to have in front of you. I am hoping to receive whiteboards, markers, pencil pouches, pencils, and notebooks. For some children writing things on paper is a much simpler task than having to open up a Google Document to brainstorm. While these supplies are simple, for many of my students they are not easily accessible.
