This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first book you read that made you want to know "the rest of the story"?

Our student population is changing.

We are experiencing a rise in students that have never checked out a book under their own volition and view the library as a silent torture chamber! Often, these students have never known anything about the world beyond their own reality. Along with this, we have seen a decline in students' reading ability and have more and more students in our resource and special education classes.

My Project

We have found two ways to turn a student from a reluctant reader to a library lover! The first way is to have a welcoming library. We need attractive books to put in our monthly displays. The second way is to have graphic novels- especially complete series that are school library appropriate. They are a great way to get students wanting to know what going to happen to the characters and needing to check out the book in the series.

We need your help to get these students in the door of the library and out the door with a highly requested book.

With your help along with sponsors like ABC Family, we will be able to start students on the journey to becoming lifelong readers.
