My Students

Hello and thank you so much for stopping by to learn more about my students. We are a mild/moderate special education classroom with grades 1st through 3rd. There are currently six students enrolled but more are being added as the need arises in students who need a different classroom setting. We have a very diverse set of students in this class that span from diverse ages, English Learners, autism, different ethnicities, and varying physical abilities.

From reading that you could see how diverse our classroom is and how there are many different needs within that diversity.

With every new student that comes into my classroom, I see that there are more things that I need to add to meet those needs. Not every need can be met with the school funding so that is where I need your help. I want to make my classroom as welcoming and positive as I can so that my students feel at home. We are a family in this class, I want to do what is within my reach to give my students the best that I can.

My Project

A calming, calm down area is something that we are in need of. Currently, we are using an area near our in-class library but it is not very inviting. I want students to be able to go to that area to rest, process emotions, and have a safe space. There are so many things that my students are dealing with on a daily basis and at times cannot find the language to express that but can ask for time to be alone. I want to give them that.

Coming back to school has been a challenge, help me create a calming area where my special education students can process their needs.

I want to have easily wipeable pillows that are easily cleaned so students can lay down comfortably. We are in need of headphones that students can use to hear calming music that will not disturb other students. I have asked for diverse books about special education students and English Language Learners that they can read while in the area. Lamination sheets to protect materials in that space that get heavily used. Lastly, I have asked for laptop stickers for incentives which have become very popular.
