Having a designated place for each type of work has already made our routines smoother and has helped students become more responsible for keeping track of their materials.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first received their folders, they were excited to set them up and learn how we would use them throughout the year. It has been especially rewarding to see students begin checking their folders independently, knowing exactly where assignments belong, and taking more ownership of their work. These may seem like simple materials, but they have made a big difference in helping students feel prepared and reducing the stress that can come from misplaced papers or forgotten assignments.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using these folders as part of our daily classroom routines while students work on strengthening their organization and responsibility. My goal is for these habits to become increasingly independent as the year continues so students can carry these skills with them into future classes and beyond. As a first-year teacher, your support made such a meaningful difference in helping me create the welcoming reading space I had imagined. They immediately began looking through the different titles, talking with one another about which books they wanted to read, and asking when they would be able to check them out. Seeing their excitement made it clear just how important it is for students to have books that feel accessible, interesting, and inviting.\r\n\r\nWe are now using these resources as part of our independent reading time and our classroom reading goals. Students are able to browse the shelves, choose books that genuinely interest them, and spend time building their reading stamina and confidence. One of my favorite things has been watching students recommend books to one another or get excited when they realize there is another book in a series they have started. The shelves have also given our books a special place in the classroom and helped students take more ownership of keeping our library organized and cared for.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, my students will continue working toward individual reading goals as they explore more books throughout the school year. Through this novel, students have practice important reading strategies, such as analyzing character development, and especially making text-to-self connections. This story helps my students think about empathy and what it means to embrace differences. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, the students have been reading independently and in small groups, often pausing to discuss big ideas and surprise moments in the text. We discuss the challenges that the characters go through and often share their own perspective during classroom discussions.\r\n\r\nSome students, in particular, have been especially engaged with this book. Students have found Aven's journey to be inspirational, and her courage has made them feel more confident about facing their own challenges.
