Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

On the near east side of Indianapolis, HMS boasts a diverse student population that comes from over 25 elementary schools throughout the city. Our band program has grown significantly over the last five years. Most students are learning an instrument for the first time. The band experience brings out a lot of excitement in our students and school culture.

In band, woodwind players use reeds, small filed pieces of wood to produce their sound.

This happens by the reed vibrating against the mouthpiece to create the sound waves that enter the instrument. Over time, reeds can wear out and get chips in them. Imagine trying to start your car, but your key has a chip. Your car won't start! Same thing with a reed. Quality reeds will help the students produce quality sounds.

Your support will help all students playing clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, and tenor saxophone. Thank you for your support!
