Recess Materials to Build a Positive Classroom Environment
My students need more creative items and games for recess. These games will also help build unity in the classroom by also emphasizing classroom rules of respect.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 27 excited, rambunctious, and collaborative students. This year my main focus was to have students who can work together and my students have thrived on this. They rely on each other for help, encourage each other, and most importantly love that they can learn together.
My students all have many internal and external factors that influence their learning.
It is my job as their teacher to ensue that all students' needs are met in the best environment possible. My hopes each year is to make learning contagious, to give students the skills needed to become independent learners, and be successful in the future.
Overall, I am thankful to be teaching at a school that fosters my own creativity in trying new things with my students. To help them receive the best education they can in an environment that best suits their needs.
My Project
In the past two years, while I was on recess duty I noticed many students playing the same things, not cooperating, and even excluding others. My plan is to utilize these recess materials to work with my classroom on collaboration games. This will also help them when working with others by reinforcing respect.
My hope is to create a learning environment not just inside my classroom, but also outside the classroom.
Where I would model different games, and even bring in the STEM approach and have students come up with different ways to utilize the materials. I want students to be encouraged to problem solve, and play in a respectful manner. These skills will transfer into the classroom, where we are so heavily reliant on working in groups.
I will work with the students using the equipment by providing cooperation games using the soft balls, footballs, catching games, and jump ropes. I would bring in cooperative games from other countries that would help build background in the classroom.
Through these cooperation games the students will learn rules of the playground, patience, respect, conflict resolution. Through these practices a positive learning environment will be built in the classroom. Allowing for more collaboration and creativity. I really want to make recess a learning opportunity for all students and diversify the games they already play.
I am excited to do something different than what has been done in the past. I do believe it will make a difference in my students' life at school because it will help make it a positive learning environment for all.
