Rebuilding From the Ground Up!

My Students

Each August a new group of young children arrive at our doors with joyful smiles and the desire to learn. Many of our preschoolers are entering a structured learning environment for the first time. Each child learns their new school family as we build community in our classrooms. The classroom quickly becomes their home away from home. The children accepted into the Pender County Schools Preschool Program are children who qualify under Head Start and NC Pre K eligibility requirements. Unfortunately, the children we serve this year attend school for approximately 10 days before Hurricane Florence approached southeastern North Carolina. The aftermath of this horrific storm is lingering as the community works together to rebuild and repair the schools. Our students have big dreams and we are here to provide the steps to make those dreams become reality!

My Project

With the recent destruction of Hurricane Florence, Pender County Schools Preschool Program lost two fully stocked classrooms. Water poured through the roof causing the ceiling to fall out and destroyed every last material in these learning environments. The rugs selected in this project will began the rebuilding process of these classrooms. When you enter a preschool classroom, you are more than likely to see 90% of the children learning through play while engaging in activities on ground level. These rugs will provide a soft cushion area on the ground for as the children are building their foundation for a successful future.
