This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our school, amazing teachers and support staff are intertwined with our beloved students and their families.

I am fortunate to work with children whose parents support and value education—parents whose only dreams are to see their kids succeed and thrive in life. I am so proud of the perseverance and grit I see in these students. I value class participation, and this group of kids deliver! They always complete their classwork and homework. I am blessed to have a very high attendance rate. The majority of my students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and many walk daily in the rain and take multiple bus trips to arrive at school. Regardless of daily challenges, my kindergarten students show up on time, full of life and love. They are excited to start a new day filled with learning.

My Project

Our community in Northern California has been affected by recent wildfires. Although our families have experienced hardship, we have learned to come together, rely on each other, and now it is time to rebuild, emotionally, socially, and academically.

The wildfires have deeply affected our students in ways that are heart wrenching.

Now more than ever, our children need a place to regroup, refocus, and relax knowing they are in a safe, loving environment surrounded by amazing teachers, counselors, and support staff. Many children in my class have been displaced, and one child in my class lost everything. These hands-on activities (such as maze boards, magnetic blocks, puzzles, and matching, sorting, measuring, and sequencing games) and classroom books will help our kiddos come together, and hopefully relieve some of the stress and trauma they have undergone and are still experiencing due to the horrific Wildfires that changed our community forever. As teachers, it is our job to stay strong for our students as well as their families.
