This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am so very lucky to work with some of the most motivated math students in middle school. These students have a love of math so much so that they are taking their first year of high school math as seventh graders. Our school is a Title I school so many of these students do not have access to TI 84 calculators. Every year, I am blown away by the curiosity that these students show while using technology. Students have even shown me new ways to use calculators while doing some of our most critical thinking assignments. We have so many "aha" moments. These students absolutely fill my cup every day.

The calculators are used for so many different units.

Wemake visual representations of functions. They will be able to verify algebraic solutions using calculators. During our statistic unit students find the one-variable statistic feature very helpful when making real world decisions about the stock market and predictions about values of personal property like cars and home values. We even talk about U.S. incomes and which measure of central tendency best supports data. Systems of equations is able to be viewed in color, which allows students to graph more equations and still better see where functions key features are.
