My Students

I have the pleasure of working at a school in the city of Worcester which, in my opinion, radiates and embraces diversity. From my students I learn amazing things about their lives, cultures, and backgrounds on a daily basis. They teach me different languages, recipes for new dishes, and values that I am honored to share and learn. We have many ELL students who have moved to this country speaking only their native language and they amaze me every day at the dedication and determination they put forth to learn English. Our school houses over 500 students in grades Pre-K through six, along with two life-skills programs. Due to a large low-income population, our students benefit from free meal programs that provide breakfast and lunch to all students. We have an extremely dedicated faculty and staff that strive to provide a high quality teaching and learning environment for our students.

My Project

As a 5th and 6th grade teacher, I witness first hand the power of quality literature and the impact it has on learning. I will be making the leap to 3rd grade this upcoming school year and am in need of books that are appropriate and accessible to my students. Currently my library is a bit beyond the grasp of my incoming students...although I look forward to helping them progress toward it. I desperately want to provide my students with literature that will spark their creativity , engage their minds, and pique their interest. An accessible and high interest library is sure to ignite their love for reading and enhance their learning experience.
