My students need kidney tables, whiteboards and magnetic letters to fully engage in cooperative learning with our use of the Columbia Teachers' College Reading and Writing Curriculum.

My Students

Our students come to school eager to begin their day with us! Our school is a small neighborhood school, with a variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds. Over 75% of our students receive free or reduced lunch and breakfast each day. Each year, we usually have multiple students who receive backpacks of meals to take home with them over the weekend.

Despite the economic hardships that our children have and though many of our families don't speak English, our students come to school excited to learn and happy to be there!

My Project

By having kidney tables in our classrooms, our students will be able to fully engage with each other and their teacher in a small group setting. This will allow them to get the most out of their teacher-guided instruction. Our district has recently adopted the new phonics curriculum published by Columbia Teachers' College which requires students to have access to whiteboards and magnetic letters. Students become more engaged when they have their own materials to use in their learning. My colleague, Ms. Wallet, and I want to give our students all that they need to have fun with their learning and be successful in school.
