My Students

No better way to learn than to watch! Our students are struggling to learn english as a second language and to read. I can show them what they need to work on but there is no better way to learn than to watch yourself.

Our class is made up of 25 students in a suburban neighborhood.

Majority of our students come from a low economic household where Spanish is their primary language. More than half of our class is below benchmark in terms of reading levels. Yet each student comes in everyday ready to learn.

My Project

If our class had a video camera handy we could could record ourselves reading and then watch it back during conferences. Students will than be able to hear themselves and see themselves. Students will be able to identify what sound right and what doesn't. I can tell them over and over again but when you hear it yourself it helps. Also, we can use our camera for positive rewards like readers theater and acting out stories or projects.

Our project is so important because it gives students an opportunity to see what they are doing, critique it and improve it.

Students motivation for reading will increase and their confidence. Your donation can help make a huge difference in the way a child sees himself/herself.
