I teach 3rd grade in a rural area. Our small school allows for close relationships with all of my students and their families. There is a great sense of community that surrounds our area and I have had the pleasure of teaching a great group of students who are kind, empathetic, and hard-working.
I am hoping to build my social-emotional learning Library in my classroom.
With your support, I can help my students build character and spread kindness that will reach beyond the walls of my classroom. With purposeful teaching of social-emotional lessons with associated literacy, I am hoping that my students will grow both academically and emotionally.
Students need to have purposeful instruction on social-emotional learning. If students are not explicitly taught these skills, chances are they will not have the tools necessary to handle their emotions, follow rules, and interact with adults and their peers. By building the social-emotional library in my classroom, you are providing all of the students' access to the tools necessary to be successful in school and at home.
Teaching social-emotional skills through literacy will help meet the needs of many students.
The books that are part of this project will be used in weekly lessons about different parts of social-emotional learning. We will use the anchor text for a week-long discussion about a specific social-emotional learning skill.
