My Students

Look no distractions! We are hoping that is what life would be like in our 1st grade class when we get our new seating rug. A place for everyone and everyone in their place!

Our 1st grade students attend a public school that is barely above the financial level required to be a Chapter 1 school.

Yet, many of the socio-economic related needs found in Chapter 1 schools are present in our population. We are not funded for the extra personnel that would benefit our students, so every minute that can be focused on learning is vital.

My Project

Having a seating rug during transitions helps students find their place so that they can quickly be prepared to move onto the next learning activity. It helps to prevent students from wandering. The comfort of the rug helps them stay focused for longer periods of time. It also builds community pride in having a special area in their classroom.

Having a place for everyone and everyone in their place could save us 20 minutes everyday.

That adds up to almost 2 weeks of school per year. In that amount of time, I can teach another unit.
