This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our first graders are starting this school year excited to learn! One of major goals is to improve our reading skills.

Literacy is an important part of our day and our students are ready to read, read, read.

Our students live in a low-income/high poverty neighborhood with few opportunities to interact with books. But, despite their challenges, they come to school eager to explore. Reading experiences in the early years of school are crucial for setting a foundation for future success.

My Project

A vivid, colorful, and inviting reading area will entice our readers to pick up a good book and cozy up in our reading lounge.

Every child should have a comfortable space where books are accessible to them.

Our bookshelf will hold and display books that will be on rotation in our classroom to ensure that there is always something new and exciting to read. The easily accessible shelves will keep our books always within reach. Having them displayed will help our young readers find what they are looking for quickly and easily during read-to-self and shared reading activities throughout the school day.
