Reading Is My Favorite Sport

My Project

Reading is the foundational tool for students to succeed. Add to that the passion of sports that our children have and we now have our latest reading challenge....Reading Is My Favorite Sport.

This quarter, our students will continue to read at home hoping to earn the rewards for our sports themed challenge.

Each student will have book slips to complete, with their families, that show the books they have read. As the slips come in, the prizes will be earned.

Each grade level will develop their reading goals for the quarter. Students will have the opportunity to read books at home and in the classroom. With the funding provided, classrooms will now have sports themed books available for kids to read. Students will also have sports themed books available on their on-line raz kids account. Of course, any book is counted towards their goals.

Incentives/prizes will include sports themed stress balls, sports themed stickers and tattoos, sports themed bracelets, sports themed books and the grand prize will be a sports themed game room set up for kids to play in.

We have reached out to our local colleges (IU, PU, BSU, Marian, UIndy, Hanover, Butler and Notre Dame) to see if any of their athletes could send a quick two minute video celebrating our kids reading.

Reading is essential will allow our kids to be anything they want to be.....we just need to give them the tools to succeed. Making reading fun and showing the connection between sports and reading is a fool proof way to help foster the passion in all of our students.
