Their excitement was immediate as we incorporated the new items. Every day they cannot wait to help bring out the recess cart and hoola-hoops for recess fun. Students are working on throwing and catching skills with the paired tennis balls. These are a recess favorite. Many students like using the hoola-hoops as intended, but also working on physics concepts as they throw and try to make them return. They have also been able to build a path that they play games with. Soccer is a recess favorite and now they have a ball to play with as they are communicating and engaging in cooperative gaming experiences. We are so excited to watch them be creative, work together, communicate, and cooperate during recess! Students have loved seeing parts of the great wall and manipulate them. They loved seeing what traditional Chinese dragons decorations might look like and the great detail that goes into them. Bringing one of the Hindu gods to life by tracing and coloring him was a fun experience. We are still printing and creating things to go with our knowledge units and being able to see the aspects pull together has been amazing.\r\n\r\nStudents really enjoy being able to see the item print in real time. They have used their imagination to ask for more things that might help them better understand each unit and bring a level of engagement that otherwise would not be possible. Many of my students would ask to just sit and work by the ants or come by just to check on them. I had students help learn to feed seeds to and check on the colonies. \r\n\r\nThey were so excited to be a part of their journey and were able to stream live footage of the ant colonies at work. We would also display the colonies on the tv in front of the class to motivate students to work and keep a calm and friendly environment to not disturb the ants. The themed materials helped bring our classroom to life and allowed students to fully immerse themselves in each celebration. On Disney Day, students were thrilled to celebrate with fun decorations and Mickey Mouse keychains that gave them a special keepsake to remember the day. During Ocean Day, the under-the-sea decorations and moldable sand created a fun sensory experience where students could explore, create, and use their imaginations.\r\n\r\nOur Hawaiian Day was filled with colorful leis and plenty of smiles, while Firefighter Day gave students the opportunity to wear firefighter hats as we talked about community helpers, bravery, and service. Superhero Day was another favorite! Wearing capes encouraged students to use their imaginations, tell stories, and see themselves as heroes in their own learning adventures.\r\n\r\nThese materials did so much more than decorate our classroom. They helped create hands-on experiences that built classroom community, encouraged creativity, and made every student feel included. For some of our students, these may have been experiences they would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy, so being able to provide them at school made each celebration even more meaningful.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the ABC Countdown gave our kindergarteners a joyful way to celebrate how much they had learned and grown throughout the year.
