My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. My students are caring, diverse, eager to learn, and very unique. My school's community is very tight-knit and there is genuine pride from alum and current students alike. This will be our last year in the original building before a two-year remodel takes place and we relocate.
I feel lucky every single day that I go to school to teach my students.
I love their energy, their willingness to try new things, and I love seeing the light bulb moments that they discover with a little guidance.
My Project
Putting amazing titles in my students' hands so that they can analyze the author's craft is my ultimate goal. These three titles are engaging, powerful, and written by three very diverse women.
I want to expose my students of color to authors that may look like them, and expose my white students to stories that may not match their own lived experiences in order to keep proliferating the power that words and stories can have.
From a gamer-dystopian world, to a religious survivalist non-traditionally education experience, to a young black man's experience with violence while he writes to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., these emotional, gripping, and powerful stories will help build empathy and understanding in my students.
