My Students

I teach four blocks of wonderful sophomores and two blocks of dual credit to wonderful seniors at a public high school. Every class meeting, we are always discussing their interests and their needs. Most of them are not equipped with the items needed to be successful.

"My goal as a an educator is to provide my students with items that are not always accessible to them as a way to support their aspirations!

We do not have the opportunity to discover a love a reading or have access to books because the library is currently being renovated." It saddens me that majority of the students do not read because they cannot find anything interesting or think it should always be literary.

My scholars have expressed an interest in improving their reading, comprehension, and writing abilities. They have shown me that they want to do what it takes to get better. These students have inspired me to continue being a better teacher and provide resources however I can.

My Project

By introducing my students to a diverse range of books, they are introduced to a variety of genres that they did not think existed. While it is important to allow them to read books by authors who look like them, they can also delve into books that are culturally rich and unfamiliar to them to allow them a glimpse into new cultures. These books will be added to the classroom library for book lovers as well as those who are not keen on reading to encourage them to begin. The more students read, the more their comprehension and literacy can increase as the students will complete reading logs, class discussions, and reading quizzes after finishing their books.
