My Project

At our Title I middle school, you would never guess some of our students have many challenges. Despite 10% of our population being homeless and 85% functioning with 3-4 risk factors, our students come through the doors every day with terrific attitudes and work ethic.

I am proud to be part of helping our racially diverse population of students be empowered and successful.

86% of the 7th and 8th graders here are from low-income households and receive free or reduced-price lunch, yet they are among the most brilliant middle school students one could meet.

Because of the pandemic, literacy scores have suffered in many students. I want to give students an opportunity to read books about mathematics in their reading time during Language Arts, and then write about some of the mathematics that they have read. Having a collection of books for students to choose from is important, as a variety of choices helps enable all kinds of students to read.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
