This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are primarily from low-income families. They come from a variety of backgrounds. I teach a reading intervention class. My students lack the fundamentals of language that is used in all subjects such as English, Math, Science, and History and essentially any subject that involves the use of the English language.

My Project

In my reading class one of the things we practice is reading fluency using quick grade level passages. Students will read short passages at their independent reading level and they will time themselves using stopwatches to see how many words per minute they can read. They first look for accuracy, then they begin to work on expression. This helps to build reading fluency and comprehension. I am also asking for iPad cases to protect the ones we got from our last project. This way my students can use the iPads for the reading passages as well.
