Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a school packed with extremely passionate and inquisitive young minds that love to learn. My students understand the importance of looking at life through the eyes of others, or 'placing themselves in someone else's shoes'. They strive to be better and leave a positive impact on the lives of those around them and beyond. They have come to learn that there is no better way to do so than to learn about the lives and experiences of others.
We study literature to understand the true human experience.
My Project
My students just finished studying The Crucible and were hoping to make the connection between The Crucible and Fahrenheit 451. If you've ever studied The Crucible, you know that it is a play about the Salem Witch Trials and how an entire town began pointing fingers at each other for witchcraft--when we know now that these accusations of witchcraft were untrue.
In Fahrenheit 451, we see what a world without literature really looks like and we watch (in our imaginations, of course) how firemen--that no longer fight fires, but cause them--burn any remaining literature left in the country.
This novel will hit close to home for students since we have reached an age in U.S. history that many are calling for censorship of literature. It will also serve as an amazing segway from The Crucible story itself to the history of how we got to such a place in our history.
