Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school with 100% of our students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch. My classroom consists of twenty-two second-graders who are English Language Learners. The majority of my students do not speak English at home, they speak Cantonese, Spanish, Amharic, and Hindi. Our school is the only place where they speak and practice English.

I strive for my students to have the best learning environment that they can have.

Most of my students live in a low socioeconomic home. I want them to have the best experience they can so that they can grow up and be whatever they set their minds to. By providing my students with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success!

My Project

This project is for books for our classroom. At the beginning of the year many students come in with limited reading skills and strategies. As a teacher I need to provide access to a variety of genres and different levels of text to differentiate their learning. Many students are only exposed to books they see in book orders. These books are great for reading multiple times to teach numerous strategies and standards.

When reading a book more than once, it provides opportunities to share higher level thinking.

These books will be used to integrate social studies, science and growth mindset during our reading and writing workshop. These books will add greatly needed resources to my classroom library so that my students have many great choices that will last them all year!

This project will help by adding so many more great titles to my classroom library for my students to access. Our classroom does not have sufficient books to support our reading program. With proper resources and your support we can instill the love of reading and foster a lifetime love of learning.
