When my students first saw the new rugs, they immediately ran to it and laid on the new rugs. The rugs are so plush and cozy. When we had our old rugs, it took me many reminders to ask students to come to the rug. Now, students come to the rug on their own and wait eagerly for the next lesson. Who new that a rug makeover would even change the behavior of my students.\r\n\r\nWe've set up the classroom in a way that makes our classroom now look bigger than it was before. Our class library now looks like it has extended into the rest of the classroom. The entire learning space looks wide, clear and very comfortable for learning. My students now take a lot of ownership in their learning space. They take good care of their classroom and am happy to come to class.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for this generous donation. I planned to download designated AAC apps onto this iPad to help my students express themselves. \r\n\r\nMy students and I are so grateful for your generosity with funding our group AAC device. With this device I am able model aided language and help my students expressive language grow. Access to this device has allowed my students to express themselves more clearly and reduce their frustration when not understood. Because this is a classroom device, I have been able to use it to model to parents how AAC is meant to be used. Parents and students have been able to trial various AAC apps to find the perfect fit for each student. When a student is unable to use their own device, this iPad is available so that they can still participate in their speech sessions. \r\n\r\nAAC is used by people who cannot rely on their verbal communication abilities. Access to AAC can allow a student to participate more fully in the classroom and better access their curriculum. An AAC device or a \"talker\" is a type of aided communication, meaning that the device provides the student with external support. A \"talker\" can aid a child in a variety of ways: presenting picture icons for the child to choose from and voice output. Some positive effects of access to AAC are students being motivated to communicate, building confidence in their ability to communicate, and persisting when they are not understood the first time. Access to adaptive technology can also decrease challenging behaviors when students are not understood. AAC can build a student's vocabulary and increase their sentence length by exposing them to more language.\r\n\r\nOne of my students in particular is interested in this device. Although this student has a large vocabulary he struggles to express his wants, needs, and ideas, which has led to challenging behaviors at home and at school. His interest in our group AAC device has led me to offer a full AAC assessment to his family. I have been able to model the device to his parents and explain how he would benefit from access to a similar device of his own. His parents had never heard of AAC and were interested in the device that you donated towards. They were excited by the prospect of their child communicating more effectively with them. This student's teacher has also never used AAC but is excited by the prospect that this student will be able to express his basic wants and needs to her like \"I need to use the bathroom\", \"I need help\", and \"I am too hot\". These are all phrases that he has difficulty sharing independently. \r\n\r\nThis student is an emerging communicator who is persistent, engaging, and creative. He has benefited from your donation to maximize his learning during speech therapy. I am confident that other students will also benefit from this device in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1756390355337,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-potential-through-aac-augment/9650639/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Potential Through AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Emma","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10223958"},{"teacherId":3938563,"projectId":9554037,"letterContent":"I am truly grateful for your generous support in funding my project.
