These books will support literacy and social-emotional skills in my classroom. Funds are low and our classroom library needs support. I have big books, but I like to provide time to snuggle with children individually or in small groups and just read a book. These snuggle moments let my children feel loved as they are building literacy skills. Sometimes my little learners just need a moment from me. Lap sit reading helps manage emotions, build healthy relationships, and build the concepts of print skills. We need to build our classroom library with more books.
It is so rewarding to see a delightful three-year-old choose a book and sit down to "read" it alone or to a friend!
Of course, my students are not reading yet, but they point to the pictures and retell the story as it has been read to them. Sometimes they just tell a story from the pictures. When my students choose a book during our free play center time, then I know we are building literacy in our classroom. I am so excited when a child brings me a book. Reading to children is why I teach preschool. Books teach so many things. They are learning concepts as well as building their social-emotional skills. Students who understand thoughts and feelings, and are able to relate to others, are more likely to succeed in school, work, and life. We are educating the whole child in such a short period of time and helping to make sure they are prepared in mind, body, and spirit.
