Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is nestled in the outskirts of Salt Lake City. We have a large number of refugees, ESL/ELL learners, as well as a high mobility rate. Keeping up with the latest learning methods, keeping these children on task, and interested is a rewarding and full time job. I teach three different grade levels, focusing on math, reading, and writing skills for those who have the most gains to make.

They discover all the wonder of the world through reading.

I am trying to get a classroom library for interconnecting science and history. By having these books, I will be able to connect their current science, history, math concept with reading. I feel it is still vital to read to them as well as for them to read. Novels based on real events help children grasp reality better. Children are surrounded by technology and I greatly want to increase their love of reading. Give them the gift of traveling through worlds in words.

My Project

These books will enhance the learning environment classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read to them from novels daily, and use literature to enrich math, science, and history. With our high ESL school, reading independently is vital, these "Who Is/What Was" books are easy enough to read, comprehend, as well as learn from. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students and the curriculum in mind.

With these new books, my students will be able to improve their reading independently, gain in knowledge with their academic lessons, as well as gain long-term knowledge.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word as well as develop a passion with reading.
