Help me give my students books at their level. Many of my students are reading below their grade level due to their disability. I would like to have books at their instructional level that they can access.

My Students

I work with students that have mild/moderate special education needs. I support them in the areas of reading, math, and writing. Many of my students are at least a year or two behind the grade level that they are in currently. My students' disabilites affect how fast they can process and retain information.

Regardless of my students' struggles they give me 100% effort on the activities that we work on each day.

They motivate me everyday so I want to give back to them with books that are at their level and easy for them to access in my classroom.

My Project

I work in a Title 1 school in Colorado Springs, CO. The parents of my students are lower income and don't always have the resources to buy books for their children. With these leveled readers, it would allow me to target each of their individual reading needs, as well as engaging them in their stories. I separate my caseload of students into small groups depending on the students' reading instructional level. I pull four different reading groups with students ranging from 3rd-5th grade. We read a book together as a group each week. Some of the things we work on include reading comprehension strategies, fluency, spelling, and vocabulary.
