My Students

My students live all around the Philadelphia area. My high school prides itself on hosting many students, sometimes some not even in the neighborhood so that every student can have a wonderful education.

My students are eager to learn, voracious in their taste for new stories, and ask questions about the world around them.

They are mostly 9th graders, with some upperclassmen sprinkled throughout.

My Project

Providing "Binti" by Nnedi Okorafor to my students is a perfect way to incorporate more POC main characters into the high school curriculum. This book also provides more insight into Sci-Fi writing and the novella format.

This story follows a young girl named Binti who flees from her home planet to attend University on another planet.

This book will be used to teach the themes of identity, family, and Africanfuturism, a sub-genre of Sci-Fi.
