Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our classroom library continues to grow alongside our first graders' curiosity! This second collection of books will support some of our favorite English Language Arts and Social Studies topics, including maps and geography, history, story structure, and my personal favorite unit — a Cinderella stories study featuring versions of the classic tale from cultures around the world.

Many of these books are engaging nonfiction texts that help students build knowledge about the world while strengthening reading skills.

Others are carefully selected mentor texts that teach important literary concepts like characters, setting, sequence, and comparing texts. Together, these books bring our curriculum to life and help students make meaningful connections between what they read and the world around them.

Although we can project digital versions of many of these titles onto our classroom screen, nothing compares to placing the actual book into a child's hands. Students love flipping back to a favorite page, examining maps and illustrations up close, rereading fascinating facts, or comparing different versions of a familiar story with a classmate. These experiences simply aren't the same on a screen.

By supporting this project, you'll help create a classroom where every read-aloud becomes a lasting learning experience. Your generosity will help foster curiosity, deepen understanding, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.
