This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Diving into a book, rushing over to the bookshelf to find a new novel, talking about that book they just finished, excitedly waiting for their turn to borrow a novel.... These are only a few examples of what I hope to observe as I fill up my classroom library with graphic novels. My students are not only reluctant readers, but also battle struggles each day as they are part of a very low-income community. Being able to grab an interesting book of their choice right out of their classroom will allow my students possibly one thing to look forward to, but also will hopefully allow them to find out that reading can be exciting and adventurous and fun!

As my students walk into their reading classroom and see a bookshelf FULL of books THEY chose and THEY are interested in reading--I hope they would realize how much their voice matters, as well as read as many books as they possibly can!

My hopes are that students will be interested in reading multiple graphic novels and will take a risk since they are interested in that type of novel. I hope that they will continue to grow as readers since they found the love and magic of reading.
