Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students bring curiosity, joy, excitement, and wisdom to the Young Gardeners program. Many of our students are brand new to the world of gardening, but some of our students bring rich experience, familial knowledge, and cultural connections to gardening, farming, food, and land.
Our Young Gardeners are scientists, artists, writers, eaters, explorers, and researchers.
We are curious, we are resourceful, we are kind, and we are working towards building a beautiful, strong, healthy community through our urban agriculture practice at school.
My Project
Many of my students live in a neighborhood that does not have access to affordable, convenient, fresh produce, so we are learning to grow our own at school with the help of the books and tools on this list!
The Young Gardeners Program aims to raise the next generation of urban farmers in North Philadelphia to connect students to the joy of growing their own food.
The materials on this list will help me build a beautiful, functional classroom space for students grades K-7 and will help my students have hands-on experiences in the garden all year.
